British designers have been flying the flag for homegrown products in recent years and there’s certainly lots to celebrate! At The Design Buzz, we scour the globe to bring you collections, pieces, and inspiration from some of the most talented designers and artisans around the world. Today, we’re looking a little closer to home and celebrating British interior design and the innovators behind it.
Read on to see which products we’ve handpicked from the many gifted designers we feature on the website:
Aiming to ‘make the everyday exceptional’, Richard Brendon is a British designer who mixes contemporary styles with timeless classics to create something truly unique. Founded in London 2013, Richard uses traditional materials to create luxury tableware.
One of our favourite pieces from this cultural designer is taken from his original Reflect collection and is inspired by Spode and Ridgway patterns from early in the 19th century. The V&A Tree of Life Reflect Platinum Teacup and Saucer Set features an intricate tree pattern and whimsical depictions of nature. The use of the bright white porcelain, combined with 22k gold, combines the traditional with the contemporary and makes this piece the perfect accompaniment to any interior design.
Additionally, Richard Brendon Superstripe design is a firm favourite at The Design Buzz. This collection is inspired by two centuries of British culture and was formed as part of a collaboration between Richard and PATTERNITY. Giving a modern twist to a traditional style, the cups, saucers, and teapots from this collection have a modern yet classic feel, which makes them a great addition in so many interiors.
An iconic visionary, Matthew Williamson has helped to shape British interior design as we know it today. Recognised for his unique use of pattern and colour, his collections range from wallpaper and lighting to furniture, cushions, stationery and much more.
Originally an award-winning fashion designer, Williamson’s first foray into British interior design arose via a collaboration with The Rug Company. Following this, his designs were used by luxury brands, including Smythson and Bulgari and, subsequently, Osborne & Little. You’ll find his signature style at idyllic havens throughout London, including the courtyard at Blakes hotel in South Kensington and the bridal suite at Aynhoe Park, Oxfordshire.
Now teaming up with Obeetee, we’re thrilled to showcase a selection of handwoven rugs designed by Matthew Williamson. Amongst our favourites is the Cross My Palm Pink Round Rug, which features the fronds of a palm tree to evoke a sense of nature and freedom. Inspired by the relaxed vibe of Palm Springs, California, the Cross My Palm collection is an ideal additional to traditional and transitional spaces.
Canary & Grey
Product and architectural design company, Canary & Grey is famed for its beautifully crafted kitchen and home accessories. Combining form and function with spectacular results, their products showcase the natural beauty of their materials.
Using marble and quartz, Canary & Grey designs are delicate yet strong, relying on the non-porous properties of the quartz and the inherent strength of the marble to deliver purposeful design.
You’ll find a range of Canary & Grey natural stone trays at The Design Buzz, but Hampton White Quartz Tray is among our favourites. Handcrafted, the piece exudes luxury while embodying a sophisticated and timeless appearance.
Canary & Grey’s candle holders and trays are crafted from a single piece of stone, rather than fabricated materials. Additionally, these British designers use remnants of granite, marble, and quartz slabs to produce their environmentally conscious ‘Classic Collection’. Taking a ‘no waste’ approach, this sustainably minded studio exemplifies the best of British design.
Founded in 1988 in London, Wireworks has evolved since its conception and now crafts British design furniture and home accessories using sustainably sourced hardwood. Celebrating the natural properties of oak and bamboo, each product is unique, yet the Wireworks craftspeople pay close attention to detail when designing and constructing each piece.
Contributing to contemporary British interior design, the Wireworks range is a stylish addition to any home. Our top picks from this London-based design house include the Tallboy Mezza and the Revolve 1140 Cosmos. Both made from solid American white oak, FS48 approved and featuring a water-resistant lacquer, they’re perfect in modern bathrooms and wet rooms. Available in Dark Oak, Natural Oak and Oyster White, you can rely on Wireworks to complement your preferred colour palette and bring unrivalled aesthetics to your interiors.
Showing an ‘uncompromising commitment to British craftsmanship of the highest quality’, Christian Watson delivers impactful, minimal pieces that outlive transient trends. Intended to be enjoyed for generations, Watson treats each design an heirloom which should stand the test of time.
Originally studying furniture-making at Robinson House Studio in Sussex, Christian Watson has since launched his own studio in West London. Here, you’ll find a vast materials library, a bevy of inspiration and an unending quest for perfection.
Whether you’re designing a living space, home office, bedroom or hallway, Christian Watson British design furniture will undoubtedly elevate the environment. At The Design Buzz, we feature a selection of pieces from his collection and love each and every one of them. However, it’s the Thoralby Mirror in Black Bronze that stands out as our favourite.
Featuring a circular bronze-finish mirror overlapping a sleep rectangular frame, the piece uses basic geometric shapes to a stunning effect. The contrasting tones of each element are bold yet delicate, which serves to enhance the flexibility of the design. Installed either in a portrait or landscape orientation, the Thoralby Mirror in Black Bronze can be used to enrich the interior design of a range of spaces.
